I recently read about the press conference presidential candidate Donald Trump had in Iowa where he had a confrontation between himself and Jorge Ramos of Univision, and I have to tell you I was astounded by the media interpretation of what happened. What I found surprising about the whole thing, was the way it was reported by the majority of mainstream media outlets like CNN, CBS, and the Huffington post. Not a single source I have found, outside of primarily Moderate and Conservative blogs(even the anti-trump ones), have reported on what happened honestly and accurately.
Of course Univision and many Liberal, anti-Legal Immigration critics were up in arms because Trump dared to hold a self-admitted emotionally charged, agenda driven, "journalist" to the same standards as everyone else. It's shouldn't come as a surprise to me that the mainstream media isn't reporting this the way it happened I suppose, but I guess I still expect honesty and decent reporting and not some half-assed rhetoric intent on reporting the story as biased as possible.
It's no surprise that Donald Trump is a confrontational guy, anyone who's seen the Apprentice knows this. What I find funny are the sudden "he's a racist, a bigot, and sexist" narrative now being touted about Trump since he's running as a Republican. He's a business man, and we all know that if he were all of these things it would have shown itself before now. But I suppose the truly remarkable part about all this is the fact that even people who don't really care for Trump all that much, myself included, are starting to appreciate the guys candor on the campaign trail. But this isn't about Trump or his views on Immigration. This is about what actually happened between Donald Trump and Jorge Ramos.
As near as I can tell Ramos has been wanting to go one-on-one against Donald Trump ever since he made his speech about criminals coming across the border at his presidential announcement speech. By all accounts Ramos, who is a strong and self-admitted emotionally invested proponent of unrestricted migration and unlawful border crossings, has been angered because Trump has refused to sit down with him and be badgered by Ramos about his proposals over unlawful immigration. In fact Ramos has stated publicly that the reason he went to the Trump press conference was to confront Trump because he refused to give him an interview. Which is weird in my opinion, considering Ramos himself has refused to do a number of requested interviews with other reporters over Kate's Law. For those who aren't aware what Kate's Law is, it is a bill that has 45 cosponsors(none of whom are Democrats, which is telling) that is designed to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to increase the
penalties levied against Illegal Migrants who unlawfully reenter the U.S.
after having been previously deported. The bill was named after Kate Steinle, a woman who was murdered by an Illegal Migrant who had been deported no less than 5 times and who was released back onto the streets despite a detainment order by ICE.
Ramos knew the process for ho the press conference would work, it's how most of them work actually and as a man who's been a "journalist" for about 30 years there is no reason to assume Jorge Ramos of Univision did not know this procedure. The candidate picks a journalist, they ask a question, he answers, they might get to ask follow ups for clarification, them they move on. Ramos however decide he'd rather disrupt the proceedings than follow them, stood up and began bombarding Trump with questions. Since Ramos works at Univision, and because he acted so disrespectfully, Trump told Ramos to "go back to Univision" whom Trump is in the process of suing at the moment. Of course everyone on the left portraying this as some "go back to Mexico" moment when it's obvious that it wasn't, but was reference to the fact that Ramos worked for Univision. Ramos of course didn't back down, so Trump explained to him "You haven't been called on. Sit down, sit down." and Ramos still refused to follow the procedures established for the press conference. So Trump had him escorted out of the room, though he does eventually allow Ramos to return and ask his questions. But before we get to the questions Ramos asked, I first want to address the disrespect shown by Ramos. Not to Trump, but to other journalists who actually were following the press conferences procedures.
Ramos was rude and disrespectful to these men and women in my opinion because he went out of turn, not showing them the same courtesy they would have shown him had be been chosen to speak before someone else. Ramos made an ass out of himself, showed himself to be completely unprofessional for guy who's been a "journalist" for at least 30 years, and was deserving of being removed. In my opinion he was actually treated far better than his manner of behavior warranted, especially considering he was allowed to return and ask his questions anyway. I think many reporters have this idea that just because they have freedom of the press, which actually applies to anyone writing something and not just journalists, they can be as rude and as obnoxious as they want to be. The press have a right ask whatever they like, doesn't mean people have to answer them or give them on-on-one interviews. But none of that actually matters with this, because Ramos's sole purpose was to grandstand not do his job as the "journalist" he pretends to be.
He was on Anderson Cooper and asked if he was grandstanding, to which Ramos replied "Absolutely Not." and went on to say “I’m just a reporter asking questions,” Ramos explained. “But I also
believe, Anderson, that you have to go the extra mile to be tough on
those who are in power.” The problem is he wasn't "going the extra mile" he was making a nuisance of himself, disrupting the press conference, and just plain making an unprofessional jackass of himself. Ramos didn't just ask questions, he tried to debate and argue with Trump as if Ramos himself were an opposing candidate running against Trump. We see this from the very beginning of Ramos asking his "questions" when he tells Trump he "Here's the problem with your immigration policies, it's full of empty promises. You cannot deport 11 million undocumented Immigrants. You cannot deny citizenship to the children of this country...." and he goes on. Now as anyone with half a brain can see, these are not questions made by a journalist, they are argument made by opposition and are not intended to allow Trump to address anything.
Ramos took the position of arguing against Trump, not as a journalist asking questions his critics might pose but by directly arguing against Trump himself. You can see the back and forth between these two HERE and you'll notice that not only does he not act like a journalist, he constantly tries to interrupt Trump by telling him he's wrong. That's not reporting, that's editorializing and that's not what journalists do. Journalists report the news, the report what candidates have said, they don't make counter arguments or argue with candidates. That's what opinion writers and editorial writers who do Op-Ed and opinion pieces do.
Ramos then goes on to tell Trump "you can't build a 1,900 mile wall" after telling his previous editorializing. All I can say to Ramos is this, ever heard of the Great Wall of China? That thing is over 5 thousand miles long. And that was built centuries ago. Are you seriously trying to tell me that with all of our modern labor saving inventions we can't something that is less that half that size?
I may actually do a post on the actual issues Trump raises about Illegal Immigration, but for now this is all I wanted to say. The dishonest way the media on the left have been presenting what happened between Jorge Ramos and Donald Trump is just further proof we cannot trust American media any more. Because it's no longer about telling the facts or what used to be called journalism, it's now about editorializing and rhetoric and denying the facts such as the murders of American citizens at the hands of "undocumented immigrants" and the fact that people like Jorge Ramos care more about unrestrained immigration than they do about the lives of American citizens lost because deported criminals are allowed to return and murder, rape, and assault people.
